The project Storie di Periferia. Riportare le periferie al centro della storia promoted by the Maria and Goffredo Bellonci Foundation, organizer of the Strega Prize, with the support of Enel Cuore, the Enel Group's non-profit organization, and the collaboration of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry on the Suburbs - with reading and writing workshops in the territories of Tor Bella Monaca (Rome) and Caivano (Naples), aimed at primary and secondary school students. The project, dedicated to the transformative power of culture and beauty, aims to involve girls and boys by inviting them to tell their own stories and those of the territories in which they live.

On Monday, Jan. 20, at 2:30 p.m., the first introductory event will be held at the Liceo Braucci high school in Caivano (NA), targeting students from the same high school and neighboring institutions in Casoria (Liceo Gandhi) and Cardito (Istituto di Istruzione Superiore “Emilio Sereni”). Speakers will include Hon. Alessandro Battilocchio, chairman of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry on the Peripheries, Stefano Petrocchi, director of the Bellonci Foundation, Serena Ferraiolo, project manager, along with Headmaster Claudio Mola of the institute that will host the meetings.

On Thursday, Jan. 30, at 5 p.m., at the Tor Bella Monaca Theater in Rome, the first meeting dedicated to the girls and boys of the Istituti comprensivi Melissa Bassi, San Biagio Platani, Antonico De Curtis, Ercole Marelli and the Istituti superiori Amaldi and Pertini Falcone will be held. On this occasion, in addition to Hon. Alessandro Battilocchio and representatives of the Bellonci Foundation, Claudia Bernabucci, Cubo libro, Filippo d'Alessio, director Teatro Tor Bella Monaca, and Alessandra Laterza, Libreria Le Torri, will speak.

This will be followed for each of the two venues by four meetings coordinated by expert tutors, writers Massimiliano Virgilio, who will work with the Caivano children, and Elena Stancanelli, engaged with the Tor Bella Monaca children. Both writers will build on the reading of a fiction book that will be purchased by the Foundation and donated to each of the participants: Vita mortale e immortale della bambina di Milano by Domenico Starnone for Virgilio and L'isola di Arturo by Elsa Morante for Stancanelli. The meetings will be enriched by the participation of guests from the contemporary literary scene.

During the workshops, students will be invited to write a story that will participate in the Leggiamoci 2025 Prize - Storie di Periferia, the awards ceremony for which will be held on June 3 at the awarding of the Premio Strega Giovani.

In the coming months, primary and secondary schools in the Tor Bella Monaca area will also have the opportunity to take part in creative and interactive workshops dedicated to the history of the Strega Prize and its protagonists with the aim of stimulating young children's interest in reading through innovative and engaging methods.

Books thus become a tool for breaking down barriers, offering new perspectives and opportunities for personal and collective growth, capable of building a community based on the sharing of ideas and emotions, and generating a sense of belonging that goes beyond physical and social boundaries. In this way, reading not only enriches the reader, but also helps to strengthen the bond between people, creating spaces for inclusion and dialogue.
