A weak link or a strong link? As is the case in many of life’s situations, on the difficult path to recovery from drug addiction, women can prove both most fragile, requiring the greatest care, and most resilient because of their extraordinary strength and ability to find the inner resources to get back on their feet. For themselves and for their children. The San Patrignano Community is considered very much a model in terms of the path to recovery and reintegration for young people with a history of drug addiction. But it also welcomes mothers for whom life took a wrong turn, girls whose youth may have been robbed by drugs but who still hope for a better future. These young women and their children are embarking on a new path to recovery, freeing themselves of addiction and becoming more independent though new jobs or returning to education. And they are able to do this without having to interrupt their relationship with their children. In fact, the mother-child bond is strengthened as the children can grow and develop alongside their mothers thanks to the Community’s play and study areas. Enel Cuore is supporting this project by making funds available for the renovation and upgrading of two residences in the Community’s “Village” area, where mothers and their children can stay and enjoy the right kind of support on their path to recovery.
