In large cities, stations often become places of passage for thousands of people, but also improvised shelters for those experiencing situations of hardship and social marginality. In response to this need, the “New Multipurpose Center” project was born, designed to welcome and support people in difficulty, offering them a safe space where they can find dignity and warmth. Fondazione Caritas Ambrosiana has been working for years to promote social solidarity interventions, with particular attention to the most fragile people. Through a network of services throughout the territory, the Foundation is committed to offering not only material assistance, but also listening, guidance and paths to social reintegration. This new center, realized also thanks to our support, represents a fundamental piece in Caritas Ambrosiana's strategy to guarantee concrete responses to emerging needs. The center will be built in a former warehouse at Milan's Central Station, granted on a free loan from Ferrovie dello Stato to Caritas Ambrosiana. The project involves the transformation of the space into a welcoming and functional place capable of providing a full range of essential services. The people welcomed will be able to take advantage of hot meals, access basic necessities and participate in socializing. In addition, the center will offer a listening and guidance service, with the aim of accompanying users toward greater autonomy and stability. The new center will not only be a welcoming place, but also a space where people can find hope and tools to start again.
