The 13th report on gender violence in Tuscany, produced by the Regional Observatory on Gender Violence, which every year collects, processes and analyses the data provided by the territorial anti-violence networks, provides a worrying picture of discrimination, inequality, abuse and unequal treatment at home, at work and in their communities. If, on the one hand, it emerges that violence is a phenomenon that cuts across social classes, on the other hand, it’s characterised by a higher proportion of foreign women, who account for 32.4% of women killed for gender-related reasons in the region, compared to 23.4% nationally. Oxfam Italia Intercultura, in the broader Gender Justice programme that has been running for many years, is actively involved in Italy, as well as internationally, in facing up to this phenomenon by developing integrated interventions to eliminate gender stereotypes and combat violence through active support for victims and the promotion of women's rights. It is in this context that “Fili Intrecciati” was born, the project we are supporting alongside Oxfam to strengthen the protection and prevention network in the provinces of Florence, Prato, Arezzo, Livorno and Grosseto and which intends to reach different target groups: 5 anti-violence centres and one anti-trafficking centre 75 women aged between 18 and 60 who are survivors of gender-based violence or at risk 50 frontline professionals 20 secondary school teachers I and II grade During the first analysis phase, the criticalities, good practices and challenges of the protection system against gender-based violence will be identified and specific needs for improvement will be collected, in order to develop specific training for frontline staff in the response to violence (social services, health services, lawyers, anti-violence centres, cultural mediation, teachers) to strengthen their skills and make them better prepared to deal with cases of violence. In the long term, the project also includes empowerment activities with workshops and orientation sessions with cultural mediators and social workers, dedicated to strengthening their skills, the world of work, socio-economic inclusion, but also medical and psychological support. The work that Oxfam will carry out will follow the Survivor Centred Approach: everyone reacts differently to gender-based violence, has strengths, resources, different levels of resilience and response mechanisms. Putting them at the centre of their recovery journey, applying the guiding principles of safety, confidentiality, respect and non-discrimination, means encouraging their protagonism to make them once again masters of themselves and their future.
