Breast diseases are widespread among women but, fortunately, thanks to advances in early diagnosis and pharmacology, there are now many more ways to treat them effectively. Breast ultrasonography, for example, is a very useful, simple and safe test that is complementary to mammography: in fact, it allows the detection of any formations within the breast, especially in younger women. The importance of prevention is right at the heart of the Cuore di Donna Association's work to raise awareness, inform and facilitate access to treatment for women's oncological diseases, particularly breast cancer. Sometimes, however, prevention can be slowed down by inaccessible examinations and tests: in the Senology District of the Perrino Hospital in Brindisi, for example, the number of ultrasound machines is not sufficient to allow the necessary prophylaxis for all women. There are in fact three machines in use to perform breast and internist ultrasound scans of all types, which causes delays and waiting lists. This is precisely where the initiative we support comes in: donating a state-of-the-art ultrasound machine to increase the number of services to the female population and reduce waiting times for cancer screening. In this way, the ultrasound scanner is for the exclusive use of the senology department and not shared, guaranteeing 30 percent more examinations per year. The benefit is immediate, because of the possibility to perform the most urgent examinations immediately, but also in the long term, with the reduction of waiting lists: so that everyone has access to prevention and the right to wellness and health.
