Autonomy is deeply linked to the ability to work, a right that allows everyone to feel valued and integrated into society. For people with intellectual disabilities, finding employment represents a bridge to dignity and independence: work is not just a source of income, but an opportunity to express one's potential, contribute to collective well-being and build meaningful bonds. It is crucial that society recognizes and supports these people, offering them the same opportunities for fulfillment and belonging. Since 2003, Gli altri siamo noi ODV has been trying to ensure the highest possible quality of life for people with Down Syndrome and intellectual disabilities, contributing among other things to their autonomy and independence; it does this through the activities of two multi-purpose day care centers for adults with disabilities, complex needs and autism spectrum disorders. The project we are supporting is called Organizzare speranza e costruire futuro (“Organizing hope and building Future”), and its name encapsulates its goal: in fact, it aims to foster the job training of 50 people with intellectual disabilities in the field of hospitality and social agriculture. Another aspect of the project is the enhancement of the “Janina Maria” Park, with a rural building that will be renovated for day care and catering. People with disabilities will be able to acquire professional skills in cooking, farming, and baking, but most importantly they will learn to communicate, adapt to rules, respect roles, and take responsibility. At the end of the training activities, 6-month training internships will be activated for 12 people to refine skills for the employment of 5 young people with disabilities. It is also planned to hire 3 people in disadvantaged situations, with socioeconomic fragility or NEET, who can carry out their work in welcoming and accompanying visitors in the “Janina Maria” Park. It is from work and independence that together we can create a world in which every individual, regardless of his or her abilities, finds his or her place and value.
