Early prevention of breast disease is critical to ensure timely diagnosis and increase the chances of cure. However, many women also lack regular access to preventive screenings due to economic barriers, which limit their ability to take care of their own health. It is essential to promote greater awareness and access to preventive services to overcome these inequalities and ensure that all women can effectively protect themselves against breast cancer. Also in this direction goes the commitment of LILT, the Italian League for the Fight against Tumors, which for years has been working for primary and secondary prevention and rehabilitation of patients after recovery, building around the cancer patient a network of solidarity, safety and information. The project we support is called Senologia al centro - Unità mobile per la prevenzione oncologica gratuita (Senology at the center - Mobile Unit for Free Cancer Prevention), and it provides free breast prevention services in the squares of Varese and province with breast examinations, ultrasound scans and mammograms. The initiative is particularly deep-rooted and widespread in the territory, since it touches the squares of several municipalities (Castellanza, Luino, Saronno, Varese, Sesto Calende, Busto Arsizio and Gallarate) thanks to an outpatient clinic and a mobile clinic, both equipped with all the necessary instrumentation to provide prevention services. Women who access the prevention activity will immediately receive all the reports of the examinations, ultrasounds and mammograms they will undergo; if necessary, collaborating with the Breast Units of reference in the area, they will also be offered the possibility of being accompanied in the subsequent path of in-depth. Prevention initiatives rooted in the local area are key to promoting the early detection of breast cancer, allowing the disease to be identified at an early stage and improving treatment options. Through a widespread network of local interventions, these initiatives reach more people, raising awareness of the importance of prevention throughout the community. They also help spread a culture of health and self-control, encouraging women to take care of their own well-being. Finally, they reinforce awareness of the benefits of constant and regular monitoring.
