Young immigrants are often more exposed to educational inequalities, as they face linguistic and cultural barriers that can hinder their academic journey. These challenges, combined with an educational system that is not always inclusive, make them more vulnerable to dropping out of school. The lack of adequate support and limited access to resources prevent them from realizing their full potential, further exacerbating disparities compared to their peers. Since 2005, the Il Manto Social Cooperative, part of the Cometa network, has provided a safe and welcoming environment for children and families, ensuring equal educational opportunities for young people in difficult circumstances, including migrants. How? Through a day center that serves 140 children each year, 60% of whom are of foreign origin, offering activities aimed at preventing school dropout. The project we support, DREAM – Next-Generation Intercultural Educational Support, seeks to combat educational poverty for 140 children aged 6 to 14 with migrant backgrounds. It accompanies them in their academic and personal development journeys, helping them discover and nurture their talents through study support and creative workshops. To achieve this, the project implements tailored tools that promote the full participation of these children and their families in the socio-economic and cultural context where they live. The project collaborates with the Fondazione ISMU (Initiatives and Studies on Multiethnicity) to conduct a contextual analysis that defines personalized educational support based on each child’s unique story and cultural background. Following the analysis, staff develop tailored methodologies for each child and their family to ensure a fully personalized intercultural educational pathway. The ultimate goal is to create a replicable educational model on a national scale, building a future where every child has the same opportunities to learn and grow.
