A home is more than just a refuge for growing children; it is a nest where every corner tells a story and every wall holds a memory, the place where they can feel safe and freely express who they are. In the home they learn the importance of sharing and respect, they find the strength to face life's challenges, knowing they have a haven to return to. What about all the children who had a home but had to abandon it? For them intervenes the action of CESVI Foundation, which since 2014, through its Case del Sorriso program, has been supporting unaccompanied foreign minors and minors at risk of child neglect and maltreatment. There are Case del Sorriso (Houses of Smiles) in several cities in Italy, and in the past year about 1,500 beneficiaries have been helped, including more than 1,000 children, in neighborhoods in distressed conditions, with deviance phenomena, precarious economic conditions, and high unemployment and school dropout rates. With this project, we want to support the Case del Sorriso in Bari, Naples, and Syracuse to help prevent and combat educational poverty and social isolation of minors and vulnerable adults. The Case del Sorriso are real homes that offer the welcome and protection of four walls, but also projects aimed at making young children the architects of their own future. This is possible thanks to the work of operators, educators and psychologists ready to accompany and support children and young people, who can also participate in sports, psychomotor, artistic-expressive workshops, personalized paths to develop and strengthen their resources and abilities. For families, too, there are spaces for listening, moments of discussion and pathways to support parenthood, to start a new life from a new home.
