Coping with an oncological disease is a difficult journey, not only for those affected, but also for the families who offer support and love on a daily basis. The need for specialized care and frequent travel for visits and treatment are an additional burden, especially for those in fragile socioeconomic conditions or without adequate family support. This is where the commitment of associations, such as the Associazione Domiciliare Assistenza Malati Oncologici (A.D.A.M.O.), an organization active since 1999 based in Civitavecchia, intervenes, offering free care services to cancer patients and their families. Through its listening desk, the association provides integrated medical-psychological examinations, psychological assistance for patients and family members, home companionship and a vital transportation service for those who have to undergo oncological treatment at local hospitals. Currently, more than 2,000 people benefit from these valuable social welfare activities. With the project we are supporting, “Un Viaggio di Cura e Speranza,” A.D.A.M.O. wants to strengthen its transportation service, guaranteeing the most fragile cancer patients the possibility of reaching places of care in safety and serenity thanks to a new means of transportation with low environmental impact, a nine-seater minibus with a manually-opening platform, designed to facilitate the transfer of patients, especially those who have mobility difficulties or cannot rely on a companion. The goal of the project is clear: to offer an increasingly efficient and accessible transportation service to cancer patients, particularly those who are in the most vulnerable condition. The service, which is completely free of charge, operates seven days a week thanks to the dedication of two volunteers who daily accompany patients to their treatments in the main hospitals in the province of Rome and Grosseto. Thanks to this project, we can turn a simple trip into an opportunity for hope and comfort for those who need it most.
