Coping with an oncological disease is a difficult journey, not only for those directly affected, but also for the family members who are close to them. The emotional, physical and organizational impact can be overwhelming, and caregivers often face moments of loneliness and uncertainty. Founded in Bologna in 1978 by oncologist Franco Pannuti, the ANT (Associazione Nazionale Tumori) Foundation is now the largest nonprofit in Italy providing free home-based social and health care to cancer patients. With dedication and professionalism, the foundation offers comprehensive support that ensures dignity and quality of life for patients and their families, allowing patients to receive care and assistance in the comfort of their own homes. The project we have chosen to support, “Never Alone Again: alongside the oncology patient and his caregiver,” aims to offer fundamental services in Bologna, Milan, Florence and Rome, primarily guaranteeing psychological home care for the patient and his family members. This is specialized support that starts with an initial assessment and continues with individual psychotherapy paths and support groups for caregivers, helping them manage the emotional burden and develop new ways of relating and affection. The project also offers the UGO service, a professional caregiver who supports the sick person in traveling to hospital facilities for visits and treatment. UGO reaches the caregiver at home, accompanies him or her to treatment, supports him or her in paperwork and, if required, in communication with doctors, making sure that everything happens as smoothly as possible. A valuable help that relieves families of some of the organizational and practical burden of care. With this project we want to be close to those struggling with the disease and their loved ones, offering not only concrete assistance, but also comfort and hope.
